Another visit to this excellent southwest-facing view ledge on Oak Hill.
The access road was frozen mud on the way up, not so frozen on the way down. More consistent snow started around 730 ft., with one significant stretch of ice. I carried traction, but it was easy enough to scoot around the side. I walked the road to the side trail, which started out with a couple inches of snow, then quickly transitioned to dry bare ground the rest of the way. The remaining snow here will continue to melt fast between today and tomorrow.
I wanted to return here in the morning, as the light is better for photos. Great views down to Turtletown Pond and downtown Concord, and out to the Wapack Range and Crotched Mountain. Monadnock was visible in the distance, but it was hazy.
Be alert for vehicles if hiking the access road, as the summit fire tower is currently being refurbished with a brand new cab. |
