Ammo was well packed. In our group, snowshoes, spikes & crampons all worked to get up it. Ice by the hut and heading up Monroe. Most of us switched to crampons which we continued with up Washington and down. From there to Jefferson, there was no one appropriate footwear. Some places you could bare boot, then you'd hit ice, then there would be snow drifts. We each picked different traction and stuck with whatever we picked, know it would not work everywhere.
Snowshoes from the col back to Jewell. A couple folks had broken out Jewell up to a point where the cut over to head to Jefferson, another ahead of us followed this track down and we did the same. Snowshoes were appropriate here as Jewell was broken out initially by the 2 that came up it in the morning. There were not enough of us to really pack it down well. It will probably be rough when it firms up. Long day, but lack of wind and plenty of sun made it a wicked nice one above treeline. |
