| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The summer lot is unplowed, with 3-4" of sloppy snow on the access road (I was able to make it up with 4WD). The plowed portion of the road is heavily posted no parking, probably from inconsiderate hikers irritating home owners. The winter lot (across US 2) is plowed. |

Full snowcover, snowshoes roundtrip. The snow got a little soft during the day, as evidenced by some postholed sections and frozen granular (generally in the hardwoods) this evening. Areas that don't get much sun didn't soften up today and remain packed powder/unpacked powder/drifts. I would expect this to get pretty soft with the warmer temps arriving later tomorrow. Wearing snowshoes will be a courtesy, as well as a good idea for safety due to the deep snowpack along the ascent in the softwoods, as well as portions of the ridge (some areas with blazes just above the snowpack, and the trail signs near the summit are at or just above the snowpack).
Some nice unique views courtesy the snowpack, including toward Cabot/Terrace from adjacent to the Starr King highpoint.
Nice sunset from Starr King and beautiful alpenglow. |
