Comments
Comments: The trailhead required driving over the crest of the Kang. if coming from the west. Driver's Mazda lost traction on the final climb - had to put on chains amidst gusty winds and blowing snow. Waze missed the trailhead by about 600 feet but didn’t matter since there was no place to pull off there. We were able to bareboot the trail initially on the flat section as it just had a little crusty layer. When we encountered more elevation and snow we switched to snowshoes. The trail follows a large drainage area. On the steeper section the going got really tough with 8-10 inches of powdery snow over crust resulting in much sliding backwards and falling down. After a long arduous climb we finally reached the ridge where the trail was harder to follow. The wind picked up and occasionally there were big gusts blowing the snow to a whiteout. We did find a few blazes along the way plus did verify with phone app that we were on the trail. More steep up hill and finally reached the summit for some lunch. We decided not to continue on to Middle Tripyramid due to time and spent energy. Had a quick descent and sliding down to the ridge. Did some butt sliding on the way.
