Overnight trip to Sawyer Pond. Much of this route follows snowmobile trail so it makes for easy walking. Snowshoes car to car. We opted to follow Sawyer River trail proper where the snowmobile route diverges right. I do not reccomend this in winter unless you are red-lining as we were. Much easier going along snowmobile route to start of Sawyer Pond trail. From there no issues a couple minor blowdowns to work around and many branches and leaners that needed to be navigated through due to heavy wet snow. The shelter has seen recent use as we saw some old snowshoe tracks and the fire pit was mostly uncovered. We dug down to the actual fire ring and melted everything around it almost to bare ground. There is 4-5' of snow surrounding the area but I dug out a snow bench around the pit. My friend Anthony also dug out the door to the privy. Open for business! Sawyer Pond is a winter destination especially for an overnight. We were the only ones there and it was quiet and snowy. |
