Valley Way is in good shape all the way to Madison Springs. Solid monorail all the way to treeline easily done with spikes. There are some leftover postholes from this past weekend's thaw but all are avoidable. The push to Madison from the hut is a mix of packed snow, solid ice and bare rock but isn't too bad as long as you have traction instead of snowshoes. The first half of Gulfside up to Adams is the same, but the summit cone is much more glaciated with ice sheets than Madison. I managed with spikes but crampons would be a better bet. Snowshoes stayed on my back the entire trip. |
