Moriah-Carter-Wildcats traverse was a success. Larisa, Ben, and I headed out with all of our dogs (4). The only truly tough section is between the Stony Brook trail junction and Imp Trail junction--this section has seen some feet, but the track had since been erased by a couple inches of snow. Overall, the 3 mile section wasn't as bad as it could've been, but it took us a significant amount of time. I wouldn't go out there without snowshoes for a while.
Ridge across the Carters is very enjoyable--well packed + higher branches. Trail up and over Mt. Hight leaves something to be desired, but isn't too bad.
Climb up from the hut to Wildcat A has been stomped to hell and is now frozen, but that can be changed in the next thaw. Ridge across 'cats is fantastic.
Overall a great day. Though it was hard packed along much of the route, we all wore our snowshoes all day due to unpredictable soft patches and better traction. |
