Comments: What a doosey of a day! The Zealand Road got plowed up until about a half mile from Hale Brook trailhead. The plowed section has some very slick ice. Zealand Trail is well packed to Zealand Hut. According to the caretaker about 20 people hiked to the Bonds yesterday (Saturday). Unfortunately with the inch or so of fresh snow overnight and gusty winds blowing snow around, their tracks had disappeared. Another solo hiker had started breaking trail to Mt Zealand. The summit sign is buried. Route finding was a bit difficult from Zealand to Bond. I managed to stay on the trail most of the time but took some occasional character building detours. I was the only hiker to come that way for Bond and W Bond today. Trail conditions are fairly good—a couple inches of powder atop consolidated snow. Once I made it back to Twinway and Zealand junction, I decided to tack on Hale. The Lend-A-Hand trail was tracked out and in good condition. The Hale Brook trail wasn’t tracked out yet but easy to follow. Great day. Hiked from dawn to dusk. Total 24.8 miles.
