Spikes up 19-mile to Carter Dome. Snowshoes the rest of the way. There were no tracks on Carter-Moriah north of Zeta Pass. Carter-Moriah was not broken over Mt. Hight; the sign at north junction (of Carter-Moriah and Carter Dome) was visible; sign at south junction is buried. Lost trail between South and Middle. Met up with John who followed my false lead, and eventually we found trail. Struggled to find N Carter Trail (sign is buried), but did eventually (the double blaze heading south just north of the junction is visible - about shin high). Firm conditions until Imp Trail. John and I went down several times snowshoe-post-holing waste deep. Camp Dodge cut-through was broken out, but also very soft. Lots of snow and wind on the ridge, but few people. Saw only one group all day -- hiking south from Mariah. So their tracks should be visible. |
