Five in our group, saw eight or ten others on the trail today, it was a long but fabulous day to hike Owl's Head in winter. Light snow for the entire ascent, no significant accumulation. It was warm when we started out, wore spikes to Black Pond, then snowshoes. Winds increased and temperatures dropped as the day went on. When we got to the ridge, the wind was quickly blowing snow over the track, making it difficult to follow in spots. Other than that, the track was easy to follow. Try to stick to the center. At present, you will sink if you stray to the sides. |
