It was a gorgeous day for a later-winter hike. My dad and I climbed up the Yellow Trail and came down the Orange Trail. There was a good amount of people hiking today, we saw a few dogs including a cute little Golden Retriever puppy that was only 12 weeks old. It was VERY windy on top of the mountain, we had to sit down on the south-facing side of the mountain to escape it (we had a nice very of Alton Bay and had a good half-hour chat there before we moved on). There are some slushy sections on the trails where the sun hits; in the shade, it is either packed-powder or ice. I would highly suggest using micro-spikes and hiking poles. Snowshoes and crampons are not necessary. If you plan to stay at the stop, be sure to bring something that will break the wind. |
