Isolation was conquered! 12.5 hour slog. 8 hours of which was thru mash potato snow that relentlessly stuck to our snow shoes. The trail was broken to the start of the engine hill bushwhack then it was a track of just one hiker. We read about his adventure thru the bwhack to the isolation trail east trail. Thank u to that hiker! He did a terrific track thru bwhack. He turned back at isolation east trail. We broke trail to cross the rocky branch river just once, the final crossing. On the Davis path there were thick balsams to push thru at times. .2 from the summit we left our backpacks. The final 6’ foot climb to the peak was dicey. The wet snow on the dry snow was slippery. At the summit we were quite happy!! It took 8 hours to reach it. The way back the snow was less clumpy though still a slog. We reached the car at 8:30 so it was 5 hours back. Tough conditions. Though we were still happy. |
