 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked in a plowed pulloff almost directly across the street from the northern end of Ore Hill Trail. A little hard to get out given the plowing but that’s what you get when you go out on these days!! One other car there when I returned; the owner returned shortly after I did and had hiked Wachipauka to Mist Mountain |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Overall, the white blaze is placed frequently which is nice as there’s not much of a trail corridor. It was most frequent at the northern terminus of Ore Hill and then you’d occasionally have to search for it as it became less frequent. Since you’re not at elevation, there’s not as much snow so the white blazes didn’t blend into the snow as much as many on the high 4000 footer ridge trails that coincide with the AT are finding. Combined with the fact that I followed 3 sets of snowshoe prints from yesterday, I found it easy to follow. A few little duck unders that could be easily fixed with a handsaw or maybe even some clippers. I threw some brush out of the middle of the trail (especially towards the beginning) that came down due to the wind. Realize that the snowshoe tracks and even likely the trough are gone by now let alone after Monday’s snow. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Didn’t see any. They would probably do okay since the powder isn’t too deep. |

Started at the northern end of Ore Hill Trail, went to its southern terminus, then did an out and back on Atwell Hill Trail, then a long (someone said it was 4.2mi) road walk back along Cape Moonshine Road and Route 25C. Total distance was about 11 miles although an easy 11 given that there was relatively little elevation gain (a “rolling hills†sort of hike) and the trail was broken. That said, some small sections had drifted over from the night before and things were getting filled in quickly form today’s snow so sometimes I felt like I was rebreaking Trail although I didn’t usually sink much. Surprisingly, while the snow off trail was almost always powdery, the snow in the trench that was developing often felt crusty and rough. Not sure why. Wind? |
