Comments
Comments: We started at Lafayette Campground trailhead with only 4 other cars in the parking lot at 9:30AM. We deciced to wear snowshoes since we thought there would be unpacked powder from Sunday at the summit, pass Lonesome Lake (and we were right!). We didn't meet anyone on the way up Lonesome Lake Trail and the trail is well-packed from all the people going at the Lonesome Lake Hut. When we reached the lake, we met a few hikers going down and we made a quick stop for photos since the sun was out and the weather was awesome. We continued on Lonesome Lake trail and the trail was not broken yet. We could easily follow the path up with yellow blazer easy to locate during the ascent. We reached Kinsman Ridge intersect and saw that both sides of the trail were not broken yet. We went up Kinsman Ridge trail which was the trickiest part of our journey; my friend decided to switch to microspikes and I decided to stick with snowshoes, helping ourselves climbing with poles and some trees. Once you reach Hi-Cannon Trail, we left the backpack and we went up to the tower and back at the junction. We hiked down on the same path we took up. We had to buttslide a lot during the descent of Kinsman Ridge (and I must admit it was fun!). We didn't meet hikers on the way down.
Depending of the type of gear you have, I may suggest bringing both snowshoes and light traction for the steepest section. Enjoy.
