Attempted to do the Moriah-Carter-Wildcat traverse, but we were thwarted by the deep snow and lack of trail between Moriah and the Carters, and bailed out after North Carter. The Carter-Moriah trail up to Moriah was broken out until around halfway, and we finished breaking it to the summit, but snowshoes are definitely still needed. After Moriah, there was no sign of the trail other than occasional blazes, and the snow is deep enough that you're whacking through the trees even when do find where the trail is supposed to be. We were able to follow a GPS track to the summit of North Carter where the trail reappeared, and from there the hike down Imp was well broken out, but still a bit post-holey if you weren't on snowshoes. |
