Trail Maintenance Notes: Not that there's much that can be done, but like almost everywhere at this point it's getting real narrow on the upper portion of Pierce - expect to push through branches and watch your face.

Comments
Comments: Trail until the summit of Pierce is well-broken and could be done in spikes but snowshoes were better up higher as there was quite a bit of drifting from this week's winds. I couldn't find the trail through the scrub just below Pierce, and looked for a bit but I was alone and didn't feel like getting caught in a spruce trap or neck deep posthole, so I returned to the summit of Pierce to enjoy the absolutely perfect day and contemplate my next move. Luckily, Rick and Jeff came along and I tagged along with them and we found the trail about 2/3 of the way through the scrub. After that it was smooth sailing to Eisenhower. Gulfside was too bony last week for snowshoes and I thought Eisenhower might be the same, but it was no problem. If I had continued on, however, it looked like I would have switched to spikes or crampons. I was enjoying some company for a change, though, so I headed back after a gorgeous day in the Whites. Much thanks, guys. Couldn't believe the complete lack of wind or people - only saw 5 people all day, and I stood at the summit of Eisenhower in just a wool base layer and was comfortable. This is the third weekend in a row the Presis have enjoyed relatively warm, calm weather with unlimited visibility. Makes the long drive more than worth it.
