Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Not plowed at 7:30am from the snow the night before but my small SUV without snow tires was okay. It was plowed when I left around 6:30. Only car there when I arrived and only car there when I left.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All the water crossings were at least partially bridged although some seemed a bit high. Pretty easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of twigs and branches around eye level even down low on the trail. Not too bad going up the trail but very bad coming down. I recommend some form of eye protection even if just glasses. Goggles wouldn’t be overkill. I believe there were two crawl unders up higher. Nothing too bad in the way of blowdowns considering the recent wind storm. The trail is blazed in yellow but inconsistently. There was the occasional blaze down low and then they seemed to stop at the wilderness boundary and I didn’t see any for at least a couple miles. Then, right after I found the trail around 2800ft they picked up again. Still, the trail is very hard to follow; see comment below.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I doubt all the powder up higher would be suitable for them. An area of very hard packed snow on a side hill where I imagine it would be difficult for them to get traction.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Not as much new powder as I’d expected. The drifts up higher weren’t that bad either. I could still see the snowshoe track (and animal tracks!) of the people who descended this way (see report) on Sunday until about 2700ft where there was a steep hard packed side hill that was tricky to negotiate. Shortly after, I headed right and began ascending and eventually realized I was off trail. It took me many false starts and at least 20 mins to locate the trail in this section between 2700 and 2800ft. If on this trail in the coming days, continue to bear left on this section and stay closer to the brook. If you start a somewhat steep and steady ascent quickly then you’re on one of my (two maybe three) false ascents. Not too long after I briefly had trouble locatin the trail at the bottom of the slide. Stick to the lower of my two tracks. I lost the trail once or twice on the real steep section as well. A bit harder to describe here but I’d say take my rightmost track. Not as many turnarounds there as at 2700ft so it shouldn’t be that hard to find.

The Sabbaday Brook Trail sign on the ridge is completely buried. I made a brief effort to try and unearth it where I guessed it would but had no luck. I also broke trail Middle Tripyramid. No tracks coming from North so I’m guessing that nobody has come up ANY of the trails to the Tripyramkds as of yesterday other than me.
