Snowshoes car to car recommended. The 19 mile brook trail was nicely packed powder. Carter Dome trail had seen less people so the trail was more powdery. We saw only 2 people on this trail, a bare booter making post holes and a back country skier who managed to slice off the monorail higher up where it was steep on the sides making it slow and difficult to get traction. The Carter-Moriah trail had someone snowshoe it maybe yesterday before the few inches of powder last night. It was easier to get traction but the branches are challenge ducking under or getting slapped in the face. There is so much snow on the summit we could see Mt Washington and the Baldfaces to the east. We had planned to go to middle Carter but it took longer with the trail conditions then expected so we headed back. We did see a track to Middle Carter. I am not usually a snowshoe police but not wearing them makes the trail difficult for everyone else after you. |
