| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
1 car when I got there, one arrived then, and maybe another 5 were there at noon. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All snowbridged but a couple have holes that will probably get covered by the expected snow although snowshoes should avoid a kerplunk. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Large double blowdown higher on Falling Waters that required a kneeunder. I cut out a 4" blowdown down low. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Very easy trail for the mighty tough little dog. No icing at all, lots of free run time and great views. He's a happy pupper. If one was going up Falling Waters there is one place the paws could get wet fairly early. |

| Lost and Found: |
I apparently walked out of a microspike without knowing it, but fortunately I had just passed Rick and he found it. Thanks Rick. |

Great day for a one day vacation before a storm. Trails up/down were fast and great fun, being either well packed, butt smoothed or choppy booted in drifted sections. Light traction perfect. I carried snowshoes but they were unneeded. On the Lafeyette cone and ridge N of Lincoln a fair amount of exposed rock and ice or icy crust; S of Lincoln lots of bare rock and trail. By hiking in the am we enjoyed tons of sun; at noon in the parking area the clouds were rolling in. The wind above tree line had gusty spells; I had my hat blown off twice, but after Lincoln it lessened and it was quite nice while moving. I was suprised we had the trails mostly to ourselves, seeing only Rick on them until nearing the end, and then only 3 more. Of course any significant new snow will change things and likely suggest snowshoes will be needed on Sat. but if its powdery the buttslides could favor snowshoes with big crampons if it gets blown the ridge there could be a lot of rock-snowshoes interaction. |
