 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There wasn’t enough room on the side of the road to pull off at the trailhead so I parked at the plowed pulloff by the Brook path trailhead. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The first one is the hardest probably because it’s the smallest with a steep bank on both sides and not much of a bridge to step on inbetween. My snowshoe definitely got wet (but I didn’t!) on the way back.
The other larger ones were mostly bridged but the water did seem high in some and I probably wouldn’t have been going across if it wasn’t for the bridge. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One very large blowdown obscuring the trail just past the 2 mile mark. Lots of smaller twigs and limbs down from the recent storm but nothing cumbersome!
The trail is blazed in blue (some old, faded blazes, and some newer ones) and the blaze is placed frequently. That said, the trail is still not obvious given that there is not much of a trail corridor and it’s not at all well travelled in winter so there wasn’t a trench most of the way. I went the wrong way one or two times. About a mile in when beginning to walk along the stream and you’re about to start climbing, head into the woods straight/right, do not follow my path that bears left along the brook. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Given that the snow wasn’t usually too powdery, I imagine a dog could break trail here :) |

A pleasant, but cold and windy afternoon hiking. Nice sunset at the end. As mentioned above, the trail is hard to follow in spots even with lots of blue blaze. Not much damage to the trail from the recent wind storm. Just the one big blowdown which, from the right angle, obscures a blaze. But once you see the blaze and know where you’re going, it’s easy to avoid the blowdown. Some of the water crossings were a bit sketchy. Trail breaking conditions were pretty nice; the snow wasn’t usually too powdery so I wasn’t sinking very much at all for most of the time. |
