Hiked up Valley Way & started with crampons but swapped to snowshoes pretty soon after starting...trail was packed well. Closer to the treeline there were some spots of deeper snow/less stable trail and postholes. At the hut we swapped the snowshoes for crampons and hiked up to the summit of Madison. Some ice on Osgood, but enough snow on top of the ice so crampons were perfect. The trail up to Adams was more packed snow/ice and crampons were good here too. Descending Airline by the section along the ravine, the snow was deeper and there were TONS of postholes. We swapped our crampons back to snowshoes which helped but the trail was a complete disaster from all the postholes pretty much the entire way down. Saw a bunch of people skiing in the ravine and whizzing past us on the trail. |
