| Comments: |
The lower portion of Valley Way was do-able in light traction although snowshoes were the footwear of choice. About 3/4 mile from Madison Hut, the snow was deep and loose, with postholes and a narrow track in places. It made for difficult going until enough snowshoes smoothed it out and widened this last section of the trail for all. PLEASE CONTINUE TO USE SNOWSHOES to consolidate new snow expected with tomorrow's storm! Spikes were the footwear of choice for Madison. We saw a few people in crampons as well. Snowshoes would have been difficult due to exposed rocks. The rime ice on Madison was fantastic, and the views were spectacular. We watched a few people ski off of the side of Adams. What a great day with B! |
