Comments
Comments: Who brought out a compactor to the lower sections of Hancock Notch trail? I legit bare-booted from the car to the North/South split of the loops. It was solid packed and with temps in the teens super solid. Switched to snowshoes at the split for use of the televators. Things are a little loose heading up North Hancock but still solid underneath. The viewpoint on North is huge as there's such a deep snow-pack. Much softer conditions along the ridge and occasional drifts with some impressive drifting on the final approach to South. Caught up with some other hikers on south and admired a pair of extremely friendly Gray Jays. Solid base heading down from south for butt-sledding down. There's a lot of loose powder so keep your zippers closed. I forgot to zip one "pocket" on my full zip rain pants and ended up with a leg full of snow. after a quick ten minute descent to the split intersection I made great time getting out and back to the car. Took snowshoes off at the Cedar Brook/Hancock Notch junction and bare-booted back. Definitely a great day to be out with minimal wind and good views. Expect conditions to change with fresh snow coming tonight and yes snowshoes are still required.
