Seemed like I was the first one up today. The trail was mostly packed with an inch of loose snow in the beginning. Higher up, the trail got more powdery and drifted. In the last half mile, the blazes are either covered with snow or close to being so. Once you get to the exposed section on top, there's no apparent blazes, and I just followed the ski tracks to the tramway. That last section is pretty exposed to wind and I was relieved to be able to cover all my skin today. On the way down I saw many hikers in microspikes. You could get up in them, as the trail is becoming packed mostly in the first half. I would still advise against it, as I was very happy with my MSR snowshoes with televator bars today. I'd also stay away from spikes as a courtesy to the skiers, as you'll cross and follow ski trails much of the hike. |
