Beautiful bluebird day. Such a rarity. First time on Moosilauke winter hike I've seen the summit in the clear for the approach, summit visit and return to the Carriage Road/Glenncliff trail junction. Usually obscured by freezing fog and blowing snow. Not today! Negligible wind: 5-10mph gusts at the summit. 25 deg F. Summit was crowded, as one might imagine.
High, thin clouds moved in as we headed down Glenncliff.
Gleffcliff was packed snow. Bareboot okay but snowshoes will preserve trailsnow cosolidation & integrity for your fellow hikers. Carriage road from Glenncliff had drifts that only been broken out by woman hiker we saw ealier on Glenncliff; thank you!
Last 1/8 mile to summit had patchess of tough blue ice, but I stayed on old snowshoes with new bindings and sharp bearclaws. Others switched to microspikes.
Today's hike was a huge gift. Thanks! |
