Comments
Comments: After having to cut out hike short Sunday, my friend found some warmer footwear and Monday we headed back to climb out third mountain. Expecting to break trail up the Willey Range Tr I was quite pleased to find it packed from the weekend. Even the Kendron Flume and EPT towards Ethan Pond was well packed, although Kendron Flume Tr looked to be drifting in. The ladders on WRT were barely visible under the snow. We wore snowshoes top to bottom although some may prefer crampons on the ladders. Particularly for the descent. I used a combo of backwards walking with the snowshoes to dig in the cleats and butt sliding to get down. I carried Microspikes but I don't think they would have helped as the teeth are too short. The gray jays at the top were persistent and followed us all over the summit. They love to have their picture taken but they love trail mix even more. Great sledding opportunities on these trails especially the first part of the EPT. We saw no other hikers but there were fresh tracks at the top of Mt Willey coming from Mt Field and several others near the start heading towards Ripley Falls. It felt good to return so soon to complete our weekend goal.
