The northern Imp was broken out enough for bareboots until the half hour mark and then shoes were required. I hiked to the Imp face and the trail was packed enough to make good time, however thats where the broken trail stopped. I began hiking North Carter Trail which was not broken out and immediately post holed up to my knees with snow shoes on. Its just too warm. I broke out the trail for 1/2-1mile and turned back. I would not recommend this trail until this weekend when the temps look to drop into the single digits. Maybe if you have a team of hikers and can leap frog to break the trail it might work, but solo or double doesn't seem to be a good idea. Incredible view on the Imp face. Apparently there is a hiker who breaks this trail every few days, didn't catch his name.
The southern Imp trail was not broken out at all. |
