This started out as a short walk along Old Stage Road to gather some data for the AMC Southern NH Guide, but when I passed the sign for "Looped Secret View Trail", I was curious. It's at a major junction along OSR, where a snowmobile trail diverges southeast and ascends 0.2 mi. to the unnamed 1,157 ft. peak just east of the parking area. A neat cleared summit and large ledge provide an in your face view of Straightback Mountain and a more distant view toward Mack Ridge, Mt. Mack and Mt. Klem. More limited views in other directions can be had by wandering around the summit. A cool spot and super easy to get to if you're looking for a quickie hike (0.8 mi. round-trip) with a good view. I had no idea this was here. This snowmobile trail is not depicted on any of the Belknaps maps that I have.
The brief section of BPT I was on, all 500 ft. of it, was well broken out by snowshoes. OSR and the side trail were well packed down by snowmobiles, many of which were out today. |
