Ice, ice, baby.
Wore spikes door-to-door. Could have (and maybe should have) gone crampons door-to-door. Tons of ice floes down low, but I did not have any issue getting traction with spikes. Went up Red Spot, and it was soft, slippery snow on top of ice. Made it with spikes, but I could see where some people would be more comfortable in crampons.
Rocks were pretty bare above treeline, but a nice film of ice is starting to form. Coming down Pumpelly/Cascade Link there are maybe half a dozen spots where you have to concentrate, but again nothing that can’t be handled with spikes. |
