 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
shortly past the 3 mile marker on success pond road we turned south onto another maintained road. the road north from success pond road at this junction is signed against travel, but this south branch had no such sign. the logging road we started on was shortly before a gate, but we parked a couple minutes farther back where there was a bigger turn out. there are heavy dump trucks hauling back and forth on this road so use care. success pond road is currently well plowed though rutted in places. new snow covering most ice. not a problem with a mid clearance awd car in current conditions. |

after the brief roadwalk we hopped on the logging road which runs to the east of bean brook south towards page pond. breaking about 12" over a solid base. at a landing around 1900 ft we started our bushwhack up the drainage the west branch of bean brook follows. some deeper snow, but nice open woods to a flatish plateau and swampy area around 2300'. we crossed the a.t. corridor boundary then started the final climb up the north side of trident in open woods which steepened into conifers then moderated, with some scrappiness, up to the recognized highpoint. some drifted areas and deeper pockets of snow on the final ascent. we returned in our tracks. |
