Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the designated parking area no problem. Only car there. Any vehicle could carefully do it. Climbing back up to the jct with 93 may be more of a challenge for some ;)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None that would cause you any trouble :) I did note that some of the ice bridges were beginning to crack under my weight but the crossings are trivial anyway.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There was just one small leaner probably a half mile after you enter the woods shortly before the trail meets the brook. I found the trail easy to follow although there wasn’t much blaze and what blaze there was was sometimes faded. Then again I had the advantage of following a broken path :) If it were unbroken I could see it being difficult to follow near the end of the trail shortly before the shelter where it crosses some water.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I imagine they’d do okay on this trail.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Nice way to spend the afternoon while recovering from a cold :) Really glad I got out today. 13F when I got there at 2:30 and I think it was between 9 and 11F when I left around 5:20. Although it was a windy day elsewhere, you couldn’t feel the wind much here which was good since it was already quite cold and I was sick. Nobody else on the trail.

I brought snowshoes but left them in the car after reading the recent trail report for the trail and seeing how little snow Franconia got yesterday. Unfortunately this was a mistake. I got by without much of a hassle with just microspikes but the trail could use some more snowshoe traffic to pack things down and the monorail wasn’t real stable in some places and I occasionally postholed. My apologies to anyone attempting this tomorrow. That said, the trail was alread pretty choppy. The big snow Tuesday night will solve things so long as people wear snowshoes after it.

The falls were pretty awesome. Being very careful I managed to really get to their base in just microspikes.
