We snowshoed to the trail junction but given the current conditions, there was absolutely no need for them. Everyone that we saw was wearing microspikes and when we converted to them ourselves, we found that we had a much easier time of it and noted that the trail is not really wide enough to accommodate snowshoes. We especially would not recommend snowshoes on a lower section of the trail that is very narrow with a significant drop off to the brook. With microspikes, this section was easily manuevered. The trail is uneven due to postholers and the trail re-freezing after the rain and warmer temps last Thursday. Still, it was easy to get thrown off balance a bit by the uneven-ness of the snow and the small craters/dips that were made by previous tracks. But with mild attention to careful footing, the trail was very easily negotiable . The snow is hard and made for nice carved out steps in the steeper parts that made both going up and coming down more manageable. |
