Comments
Comments: leaving rt 110 the road was initially icy, but soon turned into a packed track made by a tracked pick up truck. solid, fast walking up to the closed gate where we turned south on the snowmobile packed trail/road to mount forest. great views from near the summit. a short bushwhack led to the recognized highpoint. snow off trail was pretty consistent all day with a breakable crust over heavy powder. generally sinking in 12+ inches or so with deeper areas. from forest we continued on the snowmobile trail loop, but instead of closing the loop followed an unbroken trail/road towards jericho. we ultimately left the road and made a short bushwhack up to the wind farm road which was heavily wind scoured with bare ground and ice in sections. we hiked towards the eastern most turbine then got on the unbroken access road up to the old gauging site just below the summit. a short bushwhack/rough trail led to the recognized highpoint. from the clearing below the summit we bushwhacked down towards the most southwestern turbine with pretty easy going until right above the road where we hit a man made drop off from the blasting in of the road. a bit tricky getting down in snowshoes on the loose bare rock. we then continued bushwhacking down southwest to pick up an atv/snowmobile trail (heatstroke) west to atv/snomo corridor A1 which runs up over sugar mountain. portions of that trail were scoured bare, but mostly good snowshoeing on snomo packed trail. at the trails height of land we made the relatively short bushwhack to the mountains recognized highpoint. we then continued down east on the snomo corridor making one north turn then leaving the main corridor and following a snomo packed logging road back down to the car we spotted earlier.
the downloadable jericho state park trail map and aerials useful for figuring out the trails/roads on this one. thanks to bill c. for some recent info as well.
