Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, January 26, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: It took us a second to find and we couldn’t really see the track and field facility over the large snowbanks. It’s the small parking lot around the back.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable)
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blue blaze down low and orange blaze up high. Note that after the intersection with the orange blazed trail, the Mount Jasper Trail is no longer blazed in blue but rather orange. Taking a peak down Cates Hill Trail, this also looked very well blazed. Some of the turns on:off roads/trails could be hard to miss on the way down. However well blazed the trails are it wouldn’t hurt to have some arrows on trees or something in these spots. No blowdowns and hardly a twig in the trail :)
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I think they’d do fine
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Trail was choppy due to lots of bareboots but the crust is fairly supportive and snowshoes wouldn’t help much. I barebooted the entire trail easily (I just had to be careful at the icy ledges on the view spur at the top) and my mother used microspikes.
