Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: lots of parking at attitash mountain. a note on access via the ski trails. we started up pretty early to be sure to get to the top of the ski area before the lifts opened as we were not sure of their uphill policy. at the top we talked to a ski patrol member who told us their policy is no uphill or downhill walking during hours the mountain is open for skiing. before or after it is obviously necessary not to interfere with snowmaking or grooming. they went easy on us for the descent since we were already up their particularly as we were using a closed trail for a fair portion of it. your experience may vary, but we got a pretty reasonable vibe from the folks we interacted with today.

Comments
Comments: ski trails were groomed out with quick walking. on the upper mountain they were groomed down nearly to ice in places so it took a little care not to skitter in showshoes. we basically stuck to the western most trails using a closed trail on the upper mountain for part of our descent. from the top of the ski area we headed south up to the ridge in mostly open woods. snow was a breakable crust over significant depths and we were going in 12-18" in general with much deeper sections particularly if we ended up in buried spruce trees. a bit of wallowing on a couple pitches. noted more signs of the old trail up there than i remembered on a previous visit. slightly better going once up on the ledges headed towards the summit. access to the recognized highpoint was pretty good with some snow ramping to help things out. we continued a bit beyond the highpoint to the next set of ledges hoping for some views north, but ended up in a small snow squall instead that obscured what are very nice views. we followed our tracks back to the ski area and used a slightly different trail variation for the descent as noted above.
