Comments
Comments: The Stoney Brook trail was broken out and packed several days before, but recent snow added a layer of soft snow on top, but just a few inches... I started with micro spikes, but eventually changed to snowshowes which I kept for the rest of the trip. The only issue was at some point on the Stoney Brook trail I reached a T intersection. I made a left, thinking it was Carter Moriah, but it actually was the 'trail to nowhere'... I had to retrace and go the other way. Eventually I made it to the Carter Moriah trail where I went left; right was going to the Imp campsite, but it seemed unbrokebn going that way. Soon I intersected the Moriah Brook trail, also unbroken. The Carter Moriah trail was fun to traverse with snowshoes, with spectacular views and seeing all the snow-covered vegetation. It really made the trip. Absolutely nobody else on the trails until I reached the top where I met several groups that came from the Carter-Moriah trailhead and went up on the Carter Moriah trail from the other direction. On my way down I met 2 set of couples that were just covering a small section of the trail (too late in the day to go all the way). I was able to start and finish during daylight, which was a nice change for me. 7h 45m total time, which included several stops for pictures, for this slow middle-aged guy. 10.3 miles and 3,700 ft of elevation gain, including the section I went wrong. maybe 0.3 miles and 100 ft of elevation.
