| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lincoln Woods was a mess. Maybe 1/3 of the lot was "plowed", people getting stuck, and parking like idiots. Lot may not be accessible after the storm. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Skis |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Ice bridges questionable on most of the crossings, and several open drainages (especially on the rail grade section of lower Bondcliff Trail). |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Bondcliff Trail up to Bondcliff proper was fairly messy, LOTS of trees bent over under the weight of snow/ice, most conveniently hanging into the trail. Spent a fair amount of time on the way up knocking snow off the branches, as to not be covered in snow the whole hike, but it's a moot point with what's incoming. |

| Comments: |
XC skied in to the point where Bondcliff Trail diverges from the rail grade, then switched to snowshoes until returning there. From that junction, the trail was tracked out to a point about 2 miles below the summit, then we broke out the filled in track to the top. Snow moved in sooner than forecast (1:30 instead of 3), and getting slowed up breaking trail and trying to make the corridor passable, we only hit Bondcliff, though we intended to hit all three. Saw a couple groups who did traverses from 302 over Hale and Zealand, and a large group from MITOC who were overnighting. Got it while the getting was good, but this report is presently being made obsolete. Snowshoes will be the tool of the trade for anyone hiking in the Whites in the coming days. |
