Comments
Comments: excellent conditions today. started out fairly cold. trail was solidly packed to start - used microspikes for 2/3 way up. pack became a bit softer after that (but still well packed) and in a few spots if i strayed from center of trail i started to posthole, so i switched to snowshoes. plus it was getting steeper and the heel-lifts are always a godsend for that. as late morning- noon approached it warmed up without a cloud in the sky (well actually just one). zero wind at summit meant no need to layer up (UNHEARD OF!). Lots of ski tracks on the ridge leading to summit, and met a few backcountry skiers/snowboarders at summit doing some runs down south-eastern slope. I stayed for a good 45 minutes to soak up this rare opportunity. then made my way down, leaving the snowshoes on the entire way. I was hoping to switch back to spikes and enjoy some butt-sledding, but the grades were a bit too gentle and snow a bit fluffy for that (at least for me). All in all a more than perfect day! Magical!!
PS...sorry for the delay on this report
