Wildcat Ridge Trail is well broken up to and beyond the dogleg to the south. The rest of the trail is up there somewhere but neither we nor the party ahead of us was able to locate it. Reviewing our GPS track the next day, we see that we turned around about 100 yards past the dogleg. We were trying to locate the dogleg but failed. If you manage to locate the dogleg you will have to break trail on through 12 to 18 inches of loose powder.
Suggestion to AMC: For the sake of winter hikers, please consider supplementing the white blazes at those elevations with a second blaze of a bright color. The white blazes are virtually invisible on trunks coated with lichens and snow. |
