My winter ascent of Hale will have to wait for another day. There was a pair breaking ahead of us until we caught up at the brook crossing. Snow depths range from 12" along Zealand Rd to 2 feet further up. We turned back around .7 from the summit, just before the series of switchbacks. Might make another go of it late weekend. Another pair with overnight gear were attempting it as we got to Zealand Rd. Snowshoes are a MUST! Side note: Sugarloaf Trail is unbroken.
