Took us a bit to figure out where to park as we scouted back and forth along the Kanc near E Pond trailhead after we saw that it wasn't plowed. Our safest bet was parking at Otter Rocks where a plow had just plowed a sizeable pull off area and walk 0.6 mi to the trailhead. We weren't surprised to find that there hasn't been any recent activity on East Pond Tr. Wore snowshoes all day, packing out 4-8 inches of powder on top of a breakable crust. Many blowdowns on the E Pond Tr that we had to skirt around and step over. We hiked 2.9 miles to the height of land and bushwhacked SE to West Osceola through a combination of open woods and some short very steep thick spruce sections. Fun to hike a different route to this peak, rather than repeat the same option over from Middle Peak as I did last time. Very different "canister" that looks more like a medicine bottle. Signed in and trekked back the same way. Great day out with Theresa, Marie and Dennis. |
