Excellent weather, spikes all the way from the Basin lot along 2mi in headlamps along the bike path, which was packed by snowmobiles. Spikes up OBP were totally fine, saw someone slip on the slab ice just before the Lafayette summit so we bushwhacked to the right around the ice and chipped our way up the hoarfrost/ice treading lightly. Minimal winds all day. Crowds were low until 15-20 coming in groups from Little Haystack. One set of snowshoes from Liberty to Little Haystack so we joined in our snowshoes to preserve the trail. Spikes back on from Liberty to Flume and back to Liberty. Down the Liberty Springs Trail, caught the bushwhack which was easy to spot - very broken in and easy to follow back to the bike path. Short walk back to my Subie where we met Mick for the second time of the day - a fellow 46er! We talked briefly as we gave him a ride back to his car - awesome folks met all day! Epic day in the woods! Check out my blog post below for a more complete painting of our 15mi trek!! |
