| Comments: |
A beautiful day in The Whites. Mostly sunny skies, warm temps, and low winds. These trails had not been used in several days and there was dry fresh powder on a mostly stable base. Powder was 1" at the trailhead and increased with altitude to around 6" on the ridge, with deeper drifts. Microspikes were fine for the first half of the Gale River Trail. We then switched to snowshoes up to both summits and back down to Galehead Hut, and then back to microspikes for the final descent.
A pair of hungry Canada Jays at Galehead Hut were eagerly eating peanuts from our hands. |
