This was our Plan B hike as we could not find a place to park our cars for Black Snout.
We hiked down Bennett St. Loop Trail, past the summer trailhead, to a point NW of the peak. Bushwhacked up the NW ridge of Young Mtn. Woods were pretty easy to whack through. At about 1700' we bumped into red dots on trees, and a maintained trail corridor of sorts. We followed this to the summit, which was wooded. On the descent, we were curious about the red blazed trail and followed it down. It kept to just to the east of the WMNF boundary. It did have one steep and tricky area that would have been more fun in 3-season, and was tricky in snowshoes... but it was short lived. We were able to follow the red blazed trail downhill to within a tenth of a mile of the trail, but lost the blazes in a recently logged area.
There was lots of evidence of moose and LOADS of trees with bear markings. Nice woods to travel through.. and a fun day with JEM3.
