Comments
Comments: Donned snowshoes from the car. Broke a path up Sawyer Pond road to regular trail head in 4" of new powder. Road has been traveled by snow machines. Continued breaking trail through powder and crust along Signal Ridge trail to the summit. lots of open tributary crossing which required leaping or long leg extensions to cross. Tried the old trail at the first reroute. it is passable but not recommended. (Did not have the enthusiasm on the way back to break out the actual trail.) Took the old trail (straight) at the other reroute. Water crossings are open, but water is low. Need to walk on high rocks or in the water. When the climbing starts, the trail is side sloped from drifting, but we were able to break a good snow track. More snowshoes are needed to firm up the track. (Please wear them.) There was a promising outlook of some sun, but when we got to the ridge the clouds had won the view. Otherwise a good day out, strenuous trail breaking for two upper middle aged folks.
