Comments
Comments: It was a very windy day for a trail breaking adventure. Once over the bridge you will encounter a massive blowdown, the trail veers off to the left detouring you around. All other blowdowns are minor and can be ducked under or navigated around. The first 1.5 miles of SB was ice/packed snow with an inch of slush as it was raining/sleeting when I started. Began the day wearing my Hillsounds and switched to snowshoes once the trail became snow covered and unbroken. There was a fresh 5-8" of mildly crusty snow for the remainder of the ascent to Carter-Moriah trail. Carter- Moriah trail was a mix of everything: 2' snowdrifts, ice, bare rock, and packed wind blown snow. The water crossing is easily crossed with the ice bridge forming and a little rock hopping. The route is broken to the summit but some more snowshoe traffic will be necessary to fully pack the trail.
