Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, January 2, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked on the wide, plowed side/shoulder of Route 302, opposite the trailhead -- AMC Highland Center discourages parking in their lot if you're not a guest (we were not), and Mt. Clinton Road (access point for Crawford Connector parking) had a decent-sized frozen plow berm blocking it, something we didn't think our small passenger vehicle could get over without dinging the undercarriage. (Later in the afternoon, at least one car had driven over this.)

Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns here and there on the Crawford Path -- most small, one large -- that are either duck-under or have herd paths (some quite creative) going around them.

Comments
Comments: The forecast for today was too fine to pass up, and with yesterday's snow, we hoped that the Presidential Range might have brightened up a bit -- we weren't disappointed.

Trail conditions are pretty good right now, too: light traction on Crawford Path up to Webster Cliff Trail; light traction up that to the summit of Mt. Pierce (some glaze ice in some spots); snowshoes for the new powder on the Crawford Path up to the Mt. Eisenhower Loop; and light traction (or traction -- plenty of blue ice on this section) up to the summit of Mt. Eisenhower.

We saw a handful of folks heading to and from Mt. Pierce. We met a couple coming back from Mt. Eisenhower. After that -- over half of the hike -- we had the trails to ourselves.

Lovely day. Cold, clear, breezy, beautiful and quiet.
