Well packed trail up the Crawford Path to Pierce. Trail had recently been broken out up to Eisenhower but wind had obscured many sections. I had to rebreak the trail through a few drifts. Much of the broken out trail is not on the proper trail which is completely buried in areas and we won't see some sections of it until spring. But visibility was excellent so I just kept heading towards Eisenhower. Headed back and tagged Pierce. Trail was lightly broken passed the summit but deadended a few minutes later. From there I broke trail to the false summit with the viewpoint looking south and then broke trail down to the hut. The Mizpah cutoff had been broken out. There are some "extra" paths around the cutoff area and I even added an extra path myself as I wandered around trying to find my way south. Found the Webster Cliff Trail again which was lightly broken. Followed for a few minutes but it dead ended at a spruce trap. Tried to continue on my own but quickly lost the trail and knew I wouldn't be able to navigate and break trail all the way to Jackson on my own. Decided to save Jackson for another day. Returned to Mizpah Cutoff and descended via the Crawford Path. |
