Comments
Comments: i had been putting this redlining trip off for months, because i was not excited about the out and backs. i waited till winter thinking that snowshoeing would make it more fun, but only if the snow had been fresh and it hadn't been post holed to death. plenty of foot traffic on the way to GR trail, so Greeley was mostly smooth. After that it gets worse. I followed snow shoe tracks that looked sort of fresh (day or two old), but they turned around a 1/3 of the way up. Snow is so crusty, that i was able to stay on top in my shoes. Davis Boulders and Goodrich Rock are pretty cool. worth the trip, but the old blazes makes me wonder about how many folks really go up there. the ladder looked to be in good shape, but I didn't go on it. On the way up to the Rock,(since i wasn't excited about the outNbacks), i got the idea to BW from the rock to the top of Timber Camp trail. It looked to be about .5 as the crow flies...it was a nice day...still early. 2.5 scratchy hours later, i made it. Ha. That is some thick woods up in there. lots of moose (fresh) activity too. No one had been up to TC in days/weeks. no evidence of any tracks. now there are just my single trax...descending. back at the junction with GP, i looked left at the terribly chewed up barefoot track and decided that was it. Headed back to the car. next summer, I'll ride my bike up to where i left off and run to the ponds.
