Comments
Comments: Campons all day; snowshoes on pack. Trails are mostly hard frozen and packed down; some parts of the trail had a coating of new powdery snow but all of minimal depth; under the snow were hard frozen surface; snowshoes probably wouldn't be as safe.
The shortcut to Imp from Camp Dodge Rd didn't have a lot of foot traffic, the snow was loose but minimal depth and didn't need snowshoes. Between South Carter and Zeta Pass, very little traffic, snow was powdery but minimal depth. All trails except for Carter Dome were in good condition, few postholes. Nine Mile Brook Trail was in best shape, packed down and smoothed all the way. Where there was running water last weekend were mostly frozen, making the trail a lot nicer. Cater Dome was very choppy and ankle rolling all over. The postholes from last weekend were filled up partially, which actually made them more risky since they are there but less visible. The branches on upper North Carter Trail could be a little issue; manageable but posted some challenge pushing through. I tried to walk around a tree and got spruce trapped. Luckily the snow around was hard enough so I was able to pull myself out.
